JEWELRY CARE

I strive to keep costs low to make these pieces accessible for all. Seventeen Seconds is a costume jewelry brand. I use a variety of materials like stainless steel, alloys, sterling silver, pewter, and brass in my jewelry. Using a variety of materials keeps each new piece fun and unique. All materials have the chance of tarnishing, even sterling silver. Jewelry will last for decades with proper care! Each material can have different care.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is great for jewelry making, it is hypoallergenic and does not easily tarnish/fade. The only threat to stainless steel is scratching!

Here are some tips to keep your stainless steel pieces well cared for:

  • Remove before showering, swimming, bathing etc.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.

  • Store jewelry in the bag provided in the package, avoid storing with other clumps of jewelry to keep scratches away.

If your jewelry is looking scratched or dull there are special stainless steel cleaners you can purchase online, even a microfiber glasses cloth can help with shine.

Pewter

Pewter is an amazing and popular material used in jewelry making. It does not tarnish easily. Pewter has a satin finish and can sometimes get dull if scratched, here are some tips:

  • Remove before showering, swimming, bathing etc.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.

  • Store jewelry in the bag provided in the package, avoid storing with other clumps of jewelry to keep scratches away.

If your jewelry is looking scratched or dull there are special pewter cleaners you can purchase online, even a microfiber glasses cloth can help with shine.

Antique Silver

Antique silver is resilient and does not tarnish easily. Like stainless steel it’s only treat is scratching. Here are some tips:

  • Remove before showering, swimming, bathing etc.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.

  • Store jewelry in the bag provided in the package, avoid storing with other clumps of jewelry to keep scratches away.

Brass/Bronze

Bronze and brass are extremely durable and will last for decades with proper care. Bronze and brass can be daunting. When bronze/brass gets a buildup of oil it can leave behind a greenish layer on the skin of copper carbonate. This is preventable and most of my brass pieces have been treated to reduce this reaction. Here are some tips:

  • Wipe off piece with a microfiber cloth frequently to avoid oil buildup

  • Never wear to bed as you produce more oils at night

  • Remove before showering, swimming, bathing etc.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals like chlorine and bleach.

  • Store jewelry in the bag provided in the package, avoid storing with other clumps of jewelry to keep scratches away.
